About Eden Assembly of God
Eden Assembly of God began on the 7th of November, 1993. Led by Pastor Geoff and Joanne Wiklund (with their three children) with the support of Takapuna A.O.G. and a group of six others that God called together. They had been praying for some time about the vision God gave to Pastor Geoff. The first service was in the chapel at Radio Rhema.
From here the Church moved to the Mt Eden War Memorial hall. The Church now leases its offices in Waterview (click here for location information) and have a 4.30pm meeting at 218 Mt Albert Road, Sandringham.
One of the foundation stones of the Church is prayer. Pastor Geoff and Joanne were fortunate enough to visit Korea and came back knowing the necessity of hearing God's voice for the direction of a church. Until the most recent move where it is more difficult to get to in the mornings, the Church met for prayer 4 times a week at 6.15am (Mon - Fri excl.Wednesday) plus Sunday morning. Prayer now happens 2 mornings a week, plus Intercessors and Watchmen on the Walls praying alternate weeks.
Ministries & Associations The Church has been particularly active in Missions. Various countries in Africa have been the main focus (Kenya - Eldoret, where they planted a church, and Nairobi, Uganda, Mozambique). Also short-term missions into Asian countries, and with Kenyan missionaries in Jamaica. At least 40% of the church's income is spent on missions. At present the Church is networking with Tear Fund to set up a sponsorship programme for the children in the slums there.
The Church also has links with Christian Ministries with Disabled Trust. Each year the Church sends a team to help out at the annual camp in Matamata. Because of this involvement the Church caters for a number of people with disabilities who feel very welcome and at home in the service.
The Church also has strong links with Promise Keepers ministry to men. Pastor Geoff was at one time the chairman of Promise Keepers New Zealand and many of the Church members assist at the local and national events.
The Church runs different small groups. These include 4 Wheel Drive accountability groups and Bible study groups. The Church also uses material from Lifeway International like "Experiencing God", "The Mind of Christ", "Breaking Free" and many more. Also we use the Crown Financial Course, which has helped many who have been struggling financially.
