If you opened up this page a few days ago, you would have seen it was erased with a short message that someone had come into the office and the new 'page' would have to wait awhile. Life is full of interruptions, some annoying and wasteful of time, and some important and in the end, valuable. You probably know there are life-coaches, seminars and books galore that offer to help you overcome "the tyranny of the urgent" so that you can manage your life better! Here's an interesting 'take' on the Gospels: sit down and read from Jesus' point of view, if you can. With Someone who seemed to be everyone's answer to their health, their religious understandings, their political opinions, and just His sheer kindness and love, you can imagine He was constantly sought after. Notice Jesus' reactions - He gave what they needed, not what they wanted, (see John 6, towards the end of the chapter), and in some cases, He actually did not answer at all (see Philip's request that He talk to the Greeks). In other words He would not be drawn into areas that He hadn't come for. He said, "What the Father shows Me, that I will do." So in fact, the Father God sorted out His agenda for the day or night, and Jesus recognized how imperative it was to keep strong links of communication, not just as He walked through His day, but He specifically put aside everything else, including sleep, to seek God. Ok, you say... He was on a mission, but I have a lot of spokes to my wheel of life; there seem to be so many pulls in different directions, and not only that, the more things I am involved in, obviously the more I will be interrupted by 'needs'. And it's true. Whoever is reading this, if you can imagine the universe, see beautiful twinkling stars knowing they are great balls of fire in motion, see planets ranging from the giant Jupiter with twelve moons to mysterious Saturn with its rings of gases, our own sun with shooting flames hundreds of miles high, our own planet - green, blue, serene, with seasons, tides, heat and cold.... then think about all of this moving in its particular sphere. Mars hasn't crashed into us, Venus hasn't been sucked into the sun. Contemplate that the Lord God controls more than we have imagined, and even the Bible says that He knows the stars by name!! When you visualise the very 'bigness' of God, you can hardly believe that He is interested in your next appointment, known and unknown. But He says that He is love, and that is solid truth. He says, turn over your burdens to Him because He cares for you. He doesn't say that to a star. He makes it clear you are more important than the universe which is swirling under His direction. That deserves a 'thank you', don't you think? It also a thought deserving of serious consideration. He is a wonderful God, and He does love you. |
